Brenda Edwards has spoken candidly about the heartbreaking impact of her son Jamal’s sudden passing, revealing how grief led her to relocate in an attempt to move forward.
During Loose Women on Wednesday (26 February), Brenda joined Christine Lampard, Jane Moore, and Coleen Nolan to discuss the memories tied to homes and why people choose to move. But for Brenda, it was more than just a change of scenery—it was about coping with loss.
She shared that she has moved 13 times in her life, with nine of those after turning 18. Having lost her parents as a child, Brenda was no stranger to big life changes, but it was losing Jamal in February 2022 that made moving a necessity.
Speaking about the home she had lived in after her son’s passing, she said: “It was a bright house, we all lived there together. But when he passed, all of a sudden, the walls just seemed really dark. And I can’t explain that—it was just really gloomy.”

She also opened up about how her daughter Tanisha was struggling with their surroundings, admitting she didn’t realise the extent of her grief at first.
“Tanisha as well—I was battling on with it and getting through it, but I didn’t realise Tanisha was seeing Jamal come round every corner. And that, I think, created a darkness.”
Jamal Edwards was a hugely respected entrepreneur, known for founding SBTV and helping launch the careers of some of the UK’s biggest music stars. His passing at just 31 years old was confirmed by Brenda in February 2022, with reports stating he died from cardiac arrhythmia.
In an emotional tribute, Brenda wrote: “It is with the deepest heartache that I confirm that my beautiful son Jamal Edwards passed away yesterday morning after a sudden illness. Myself, his sister Tanisha, and the rest of his family and friends are completely devastated. He was the centre of our world.”
As they grieved, Brenda asked for privacy and thanked everyone for their support.
“Jamal was an inspiration to myself and so many. Our love for him lives on, his legacy lives on. Long live Jamal Edwards MBE, MBA, PHD.”
Her Loose Women appearance was yet another reminder of the profound loss she continues to navigate. But by sharing her journey, Brenda hopes to inspire others who are facing grief, proving that even in the darkest moments, healing is possible.
