Jets head coach Robert Saleh recently said he would like to see running back Breece Hall grind out those “grimy” yards more. While some thought that was a shot at Hall, the running back considered it very fair constructive criticism.
“I just took it as, if you can’t call out your best players on offense then you can’t really call out anybody,” Hall said Thursday, via the New York Post. “I said last week that I take pride in being an ‘A’ player, so if I get called out, you can’t get in your feelings about it or you can’t be sad about it. It just is what it is: You have to be better.”
After rushing for over 100 yards twice in the first five weeks of the season, Hall has reached 50 just once in his last six games. Four of those games Hall hasn’t reached 30 yards.
Hall understands Saleh’s comments weren’t personal. Hall wants to be one of the key cogs in the offense, so it’s almost like he feels Saleh did the right thing by calling him out instead of just letting things stay how they are. Hall wants to put the team in position to win each week.
“Every back probably has some yards they left out there that they wish they could have back — and I do,” Hall said. “But I’m going out there every week trying to play my best, trying to put us in a position to win.”
Hall has a chance to bounce back against a Falcons defense that is allowing 112 rushing yards per game.
