A woman has died following an early-hours smash in Wigan. The woman, in her 50s, was hit by a car on Kirkhall Lane, Leigh, at around 1.30am on Wednesday.
Emergency services scrambled to the scene, to reports that a pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle. The blue Mini Cooper had been travelling along the road towards Atherleigh Way when it collided with the woman.
Police have since confirmed the sad news that the woman has died. The driver of the vehicle stopped at the scene and has been assisting with officers as they make enquiries.

Paramedics from the North West Ambulance service also attended the scene, which saw the road closed off overnight before reopening shortly before 8am.
PC Phil Collingwood, from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “First and foremost our thoughts remain with the woman’s friends and family who are understandably devastated. We’ve been following up a number of lines of enquiry throughout the night and we remained at the scene this morning carrying out a thorough investigation to find the answers the woman’s friends and family need."
