Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk could meet in an undisputed clash in the Middle East - with Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte stepping aside.
Fury had been expected to defend his heavyweight world title against Whyte in March or April - with Joshua facing Usyk for a second time.
But Fury's promoter Bob Arum has claimed they have received an offer from the Middle East to crown a first undisputed champion since Lennox Lewis in 1999.
"It is total chaos,” Arum told talkSPORT. “What’s happening is just promises coming out of the Middle East about doing a unified fight with Usyk and Fury, and is Dillian Whyte going to step aside.
“And people that have absolutely no contractual ties – like Frank Warren’s Queensberry and our Top Rank do – are getting involved.
“It’s a typical terrible kind of situation, but hopefully it’ll get sorted out and probably it will get sorted out with a purse bid on Friday.”
Purse bids for Fury's clash with Whyte have twice been delayed and are now set to take place on Friday.
But Arum admitted he is unsure as to whom Fury will face next.
"Who are these people in the Middle East? And what’s their backing and all of that stuff? That’s not clear," he added.
"All I know is that the contract with Tyson Fury is with Frank Warren’s Queensberry and Top Rank.
"Nobody has talked to us about buying out rights or getting our permission to go ahead."
Joshua has refused to rule out stepping aside but an announcement about his rematch with Usyk had been expected imminently.

A date in April at either the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium or Wembley has been mooted.
Joshua said last November: "In terms of stepping aside, I don't know if that goes in line with what a morally stand for... but I want to be known as one of the smartest businessmen as well.
"I want to make the smart decisions and if the money is right we would have to look at it but respect has more value than money.
"Will I take the step-aside money? If its a smart business move.. will it affect my reputation and respect? Will I still get to fight the best fighters? Those are the three things I have to consider."
