Tributes as The Script band member dies

The Script guitarist Mark Sheehan has died, the band confirmed on Friday.

Sheehan, 46, died following a brief illness according to a statement out out by the group.

It also confirmed that he had passed away in hospital on Friday.

"Much loved husband, father, brother, band mate and friend Mark Sheehan passed away today in hospital after a brief illness," the band's brief statement read.

"The family and group ask fans to respect their privacy at this tragic time."

The Irish band have sold millions of records around the world with huge hits including Man Who Can't Be Moved, Superheroes and Hall of Fame.

Sheehan had played in the band MyTown before joining The Script, along with the band's frontman Danny O'Donoghue.

He was one of The Script's founding members.

Condolences and tributes from fans have been pouring in from fans devastated by the news.

The band had been scheduled to play in June supporting Pink in Manchester, Sunderland and Birmingham.

They were also set to support Take That at a concert in London in July.
