Trams suspended on part of Metrolink line after tree falls onto track

Passengers were warned to expect disruption on Metrolink services after a tree fell onto a Greater Manchester tramline. Services on the Rochdale via Oldham line were part-suspended this afternoon (July 12).

Services on the line ran between Rochdale town centre and Westwood, in Oldham. There were also trams running between East Didsbury and Newton Heath and Moston, through Manchester city centre.

It meant the Failsworth, Hollinwood, South Chadderton and Freehold stops were out of service. Metrolink tickets were accepted on a number of local bus services.

A spokesperson for Manchester Metrolink wrote on Twitter: "Due to a fallen tree blocking the track, the Rochdale via Oldham line is currently part suspended. Services will operate Rochdale Town Centre to Westwood and East Didsbury to Newton Heath and Moston.

"Ticket acceptance is in place on 81, 83, 84, 181 & 182 bus services." Transport for Greater Manchester spokesperson added: "The incident is currently ongoing and teams have been dispatched to the scene."

Services resumed at 2pm. Minor delays are being reported following the incident.
