Tiger Woods announces return to golf in first competition since The Open

Tiger Woods has confirmed he will return to gold at the Hero World Challenge.

The American has been out of action since The Open as he continues his recovery from the injuries he sustained in a car crash in 2021.

Woods admitted afterwards that he would have to manage his body better and has now confirmed he will feature in the competition that he hosts on November 28.

The 20-man tournament will be held in the Bahamas with Woods also confirming that Tommy Fleetwood and Kevin Kisner have joined the field.

Woods confirmed recently he will take part in The Match with Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas on December 10 - but will now feature in Albany weeks before.

The American has only played in three competitions this year - all Major events - and most recently missed the cut at St Andrews. Speaking after that departure, he admitted he was not sure when he would return to the course.

Woods admitted: "People have no idea what I have to go through and the hours of the work on the body, pre and post, each and every single day to do what I just did.

“That's what people don't understand. They don't see. And then you think about playing more events on top of that, it's hard enough just to do what I did.

“It's a struggle just playing the three events I played this year. That in itself was something I'm very proud of. I was able to play these three events, considering what has transpired."

Woods could also compete at the PNC Championship alongside his son Charlie, who he has been spotted caddying for this week.

The field for the Hero World Challenge also features defending champion Viktor Hovland alongside the likes of Thomas, Spieth and Jon Rahm.

The competition, which was first established in 2000, is part of the PGA Tour schedule and has not included any golfers from the Saudi-backed breakaway LIV Golf circuit.
