Police investigate 'indecent images' shared with Lanarkshire youngsters in online group chat

Concerned parents of children attending primary schools in Airdrie have been "made aware of an incident involving a social media platform" where "indecent images" were shared to some youngsters.

A reader, who wishes to remain anonymous, contacted Lanarkshire Live to claim a man has been "sending pictures of his penis" to an online group chat while attempting to "add kids to the chat".

We understand that some pupils from two Airdrie primary schools are among those to be targeted.

The anonymous reader added: "This was the talk of all the parents dropping off their kids this morning and is really alarming"

"Some parents received phone calls to warn them about what was going on."

A spokesperson for North Lanarkshire Council told Lanarkshire Live : “We have been made aware of an incident involving a social media platform, which is used in a personal capacity by a number of our pupils.

"We have spoken to pupils and parents at the schools and provided them with safety advice. The police have been contacted and are investigating.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "An investigation is under way after indecent images were shared following unauthorised access to a social media group in Airdrie.

"Enquiries are currently continuing into this matter."
