BREAKING: Pedestrian struck by a car on busy road in Airdrie town centre

A pedestrian has been struck by a car on a busy road in Airdrie town centre this afternoon.

Emergency services are in attendance - with an eyewitness telling Lanarkshire Live two police cars and an ambulance are at the scene - following the incident, which took place at 1.45pm on Graham Street, near Airdrie Sheriff Court.

The A89 by Morrisons is currently closed, as police officers attend the scene and their enquiries get underway.

A Police Scotland spokesperson told Lanarkshire Live : "At 1.45pm on August 1, police received a report a pedestrian had been struck in a road traffic collision on Graham Street, Airdrie.

"Emergency services are in attendance and enquiries are ongoing.

"The A89 at Morrisons is currently closed."
