Nottingham Forest complete transfer of Wales international

Nottingham Forest have added more strength in depth to their squad with the capture of Burnley's Wayne Hennessey.

The 35-year-old goalkeeper comes as Steve Cooper's seventh summer signing and joins the City Ground on a two year deal from the newly relegated Clarets.

Hennessey was restricted to just two appearances at Turf Moor last season, with Nick Pope being the first-choice between the sticks in their relegation campaign. The experienced stopper has been deemed as surplus to requirements ahead of this season as new boss Vincent Kompany is keen to sign a new number one following Pope's transfer to Newcastle United.

Although Forest have added Dean Henderson to their ranks as the first choice shot-stopper following the exit of Ethan Hovarth on loan and Brice Samba's departure to Lens, Cooper has been keen to add quality back-up to his squad as he prepares for life back in the Premier League.

After signing for Burnley last summer, Hennessey has only gone on to make three appearances, keeping one clean sheet. He has previously had spells at Crystal Palace and Wolves.

As well as Henderson, Forest have also already signed Taiwo Awoniyi, Giulian Biancone, Moussa Niakhate, Neco Williams and Omar Richards so far in this summer's transfer window as they prepare for life back in the Premier League.

"I've come up against Forest a lot in the past and it’s a fantastic club," Hennessey said. "There's a great fanbase and the atmosphere at the City Ground is up there with the best in the game. It'll be a different level now that we’re back in the Premier League.

"I have also played with and against a few of the Forest players. It's a very exciting time to come on board and I can't wait to get involved and start training here at the Nigel Doughty Academy."
