New York subway slashings: Three women attacked in sickening spree as CCTV released

A manhunt is underway after three women were injured in one night in a series of slashings on the New York City Subway.

New York Police Department (NYPD) officials released a photograph of the suspect after three women aged 19, 48 and 28 were all attacked.

Police were called to reports of a slashing at the 86th Street-Lexington Avenue subway station at 4.14pm when a woman, 19 reported a male injuring her right leg.

The 48-year-old woman was then allegedly attacked by the suspect at the same station, before he fled on a downtown 4 train. Both women were treated for their injuries at hospital.

Minutes later, the incident involving the third woman was reported at 4.32pm.

The suspect fled the scene once again, leaving the third victim with a "severe laceration".

She was sitting on a southbound 4 train heading toward the Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall station.

The NYPD is looking for a male with short black hair and brown eyes, believed to be around five foot eight and 220lbs.

He was last seen wearing a white shirt, blue trousers, black trainers and a baseball cap.

Nicholas Altobelli said he was working only a block away from the scene, in New York's Upper East Side.

On a 6 train in February 2020, Altobelli heard screams and helped a woman who was randomly slashed. He said yesterday's incidents brought back memories of that day.

He was forced to use his shirt as a tourniquet as a young victims suffered a head wound.

"It's just clear that if this happened two years ago and we're still dealing with this now, I mean, that's a really, really vicious thing to happen, and something we've really got to clean up," said Altobelli to ABC.

Sazan Thapa, who works nearby, added: "The 4/5/6 stations, I think they need to be a little careful about putting people around, putting cops around."

Another stabbing on Sunday morning occurred on the Subway's J train, sending a man to hospital.
