Police swarmed the quiet residential street on Sunday afternoon, as horrified residents also reported seeing a number of ambulances arrive on blue lights.

A cordon was put in place and an evidence tent erected outside a house with officers and forensics remaining at the scene overnight as investigations continued.

One neighbour, who lives on Riddings Road, told the Manchester Evening News that the victim was a 'frail' man who was 'lovely' and had lived in the area for a number of years.

Greater Manchester Police have said they are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with the incident and that an investigation is still ongoing to determine the full circumstances.

Detective Inspector Lee Shaw from GMP’s Major Incident Team said: “Our thoughts remain with the family of the man who has sadly died. Our Family Liaison Officers continue to liaise with them and ensure they are fully updated. We have launched an investigation to piece together the full circumstances surrounding his death.

"I have no doubt that the community are shocked and are worried to hear the news about the death of the man, but I would like to reassure them that this is an isolated incident and at this stage, we are not currently looking for anyone else."
