Morrisons permanently cuts prices across 394 cafés - as it launches Christmas menu

Morrisons is permanently cutting prices on half the hot dishes in its cafés.

The supermarket has cut prices on meals such as fish and chips, which was £7.99 and is now £6.99.

A full English breakfast – including Scottish, vegan and vegetarian options - is now £5.99, down from £6.99.

A bacon and sausage sandwich was £3.49 and is now £2.99.

Meanwhile, a burger that cost £6.99 now costs £5.99.

The supermarket has also launched its Christmas menu in its cafés.

Customers can tuck into a two-course meal for £9.99 or three courses for £11.99 from 11.30am to 3.30pm each day.

The Christmas menu includes favourite starters such as prawn cocktail and Brussels pâté for £3.99 each.

Tomato and basil soup is £3.49.

For the main meal, customers can get a Christmas turkey roast for the main meal, with vegan and vegetarian options available - all at £7.49.

The meat option has turkey, baked and mashed potatoes, carrots, Brussel sprouts, stuffing, Yorkshire pudding, pigs in blankets, cranberry sauce and gravy.

The vegetarian alternative swaps turkey for a pumpkin and cranberry roast and removes the pigs in blankets.

The vegan option is the same as the vegetarian, but also removes the mashed potato and Yorkshire pudding.

Morrisons has desserts including Christmas pudding, Bramley apple crumble or sticky toffee pudding, for £2.99 each.

Morrisons Cafés director Sian Whittle said: “We know that when it comes to eating out, our customers are looking for great value more than ever so we’re pleased to announce that we’ve cut the price of over half the hot dishes on our menu.

"Our Christmas menu also offers traditional classics as well as some festive twists and we look forward to welcoming our customers to our cafés in the coming weeks.”

Morrisons has also banned all plastic packaging from its Christmas gift wrap and accessories range.

The supermarket had already removed glitter from crackers and cards in previous years - and said its latest move will allow customers to have "a more sustainable Christmas".

The decision will remove more than 3.1 tonnes of plastic shrink wrap from its wrapping paper alone, Morrisons said.

The ban affects all festive wrapping paper and gifting accessories, such as gift tags and bags - which will be made of recyclable paper instead.

Wrapping paper, which cost £2 in 2021, will be sold for just 99p this year and gift bags have also been reduced.

The new range supports Morrisons' target to reduce plastic packaging by 50% and to make all own-brand plastic packaging recyclable, reusable or compostable by 2025.

The announcement comes as Morrisons revealed its Christmas advert for 2022, bringing back Farmer Christmas to celebrate all things food.

The 60-second clip showcases "the other hero of Christmas" for the second year running, as Morrisons shines a light on the work of British farmers.
