Ferrari fans at the Italian Grand Prix booed Max Verstappen after he finished ahead of Charles Leclerc in controversial circumstances.
Verstappen beat Leclerc to win the Grand Prix after a full safety car was deployed with five laps left in the race after Daniel Ricciardo's McLaren suffered an oil leak. Verstappen held a lead of around 20 seconds over Leclerc at the time and the race finished under the safety car.
Leclerc expressed his frustration over the team radio at the time, while the Italian Ferrari fans booed the decision. Speaking after the race, Leclerc said: "The end was frustrating.
"I wish we could have gone racing. It's a shame. I gave my all but we got P2 today. I wish I could've won in front of the amazing Tifosi we have here, I just couldn't today."
Verstappen, meanwhile, celebrated winning his fifth consecutive Grand Prix, saying: "We had a great race. On every compound we were good. Unfortunately we didn't get a restart at the end but overall we had a really good day.
"It was really enjoyable to drive today. A great day for us. It took a bit of time to be on a great podium like this."
Red Bull chief Christian Horner added: "We don't want to win a race under a safety car. It's something we've talked about for many many years, that they should finish racing. There was enough time to get that race going. I think they picked up the wrong cars, picked up George Russell.
"We had the faster car, we would have liked to win the race on the track, not behind the Safety Car. We share the disappointment of all the fans, because it took away a grandstand finish. It goes against the principles of what we've discussed previously.
"The biggest losers were the fans. We need to look quickly to address that. I think they had more than enough time to get going. We need to go through details, but for me there was enough time, we had a car that wasn't in a barrier, it was just by the side of the track."
