Prosecutors said 32-year-old Cardoso was out for revenge when he stabbed Mr Da Silva three times in the early hours of Saturday, May 28.
Cardoso denied murder and manslaughter. He claimed he was acting in self-defence, and said he was suffering from post traumatic stress disorder following the previous fight.
But jurors rejected this and found him guilty with a majority of 10 to 2.
Minshull Street Crown Court heard that about a month before the killing, Cardoso had suffered a cut to his eyebrow in a fight with Mr Da Silva in Oldham town centre.
Weeks later Cardoso had left the Envy nightclub at 4am before heading towards the Kilombo restaurant on Union Street.
Then Cardoso 'almost immediately' went to his car to arm himself with a knife, prosecutors said.
After a brief chat with Mr Da Silva, he stabbed him three times to the chest. One of the blows fractured a rib and penetrated one of his lungs.
He was rushed to hospital but sadly died shortly after arriving.
The following day, dad-of-two Cardoso was found more than 200 miles away in Ipswich, Suffolk, where his former partner lived.
Giving evidence, Cardoso, of Alma Street, Rochdale, claimed that Mr Da Silva had punched him in the fight weeks before following an argument.
He said he was fearful of Mr Da Silva, claiming that he'd threatened to kill him.
Cardoso admitted he'd armed himself on the night of the killing after leaving the nightclub, claiming he was 'scared for my life'.
He told jurors that he had 'no memory' of the fatal stabbing.
Cardoso said the next thing he remembered was being parked in his car near his house in Rochdale.
The sentencing hearing has been adjourned.
Presiding Judge, Mrs Justice Amanda Yip warned Cardoso that the only sentence she can pass is a life imprisonment, but will have to decide on the minimum term to be served before he will be considered for release.
