Man dies after horror crash at M60 and M62 Simister Island junction

A motorcyclist has died after 'losing control' of his bike on a motorway slip road.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the crash at junction 18 of the M62 yesterday afternoon (Tuesday), where the road merges into the M60. Officers found that the rider of a Yamaha motorbike had lost control as he drove onto the eastbound slip road of the M62, police said.

The rider - a man aged in his 60s - was rushed to hospital from the scene. He was tragically pronounced dead a short time later.

Greater Manchester Police said his next of kin has been informed. Collision investigators are now appealing for any witnesses of the crash - which happened at around 2.50pm - to come forward.

In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "At around 2.50pm on Tuesday 21 June 2022, we received a report of a collision at junction 18 of the M60 and M62. Enquiries have established that the rider of a Yamaha motorcycle lost control of the vehicle as it entered the eastbound slip road of the M62.

"The rider, a man in his 60s, was taken to hospital where he was sadly pronounced dead. His next of kin has been informed.

"Anyone with information or dash cam footage showing the motorcycle in the lead up to the collision should contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit via 0161 856 4741 quoting 1913 21/05/22."
