Man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder as woman fights for life following 'disturbance'

A woman is fighting for her life in hospital after being found seriously injured at a house in Tameside. Police say they were called to a reported 'disturbance' on Currier Lane in Ashton at 4:50pm on Monday evening (March 13).

Officers attended and found a 33-year-old woman with inside a property with serious injuries. She was rushed to hospital and is now in a life-threatening condition, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.

Police said they 'acted swiftly to make an arrest' following the incident. A 39-year-old man was later held on suspicion of attempted murder with enquiries ongoing.

However, the force says there is believed to be 'no wider threat to the community.' Locals said police and paramedic vehicles were first spotted on the street at around 5pm on Monday evening and that specialist forensic crime investigation (CSI) teams were among those who responded.

No cordon was visible when the Manchester Evening News visited the street this afternoon.

In a statement issued today, GMP said: "Officers were called to reports of a disturbance at Currier Lane, Ashton-under-Lyne, at about 4:50pm on 13 March 2023. A woman, 33. was found inside a property with serious injuries and is now in hospital in a life-threatening condition.

"A 39-year-old man was later located and arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, with the investigation ongoing. There is a scene at the location but no wider threat to the community."
