Firefighters are responding to a car on fire at a garage in Stockport this evening.
Fire crews were called to the Mercian Motors garage on Mercian Way, Edgeley just before 5pm on Saturday (February 19).
They were called following reports of a fire at a commercial premises.
Three fire engines from Stockport, Whitehill and Wythenshawe fire stations quickly attended the scene.
Enquiries established the fire involved a car inside a garage.
Following the incident, Mercian Way was closed in both directions between Worrall Street and Booth Street until 6.50pm.
Fire crews and police remain at the scene.
People have been advised to avoid the area when possible.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Just before 5pm this afternoon (Saturday 19 February) we received a report about a fire at a commercial premises on Mercian Way, Stockport.
“Three fire engines from Stockport, Whitehill and Wythenshawe fire stations were quickly at the scene.
“The fire involved a car inside a garage, and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are currently tackling the flames using two hose reels and jets.
“Crews are still at the scene. Please stay clear of the area while they carry out their work.”
Mercuain Way has now reopened.
