A huge fire has broken out at a city centre building as black smoke billows into the sky.
Emergency crews have rushed to the blaze near Carliol Square, in Newcastle, this evening.
Firefighters from Tyne and Wear Fire Brigade are on the scene close to Newcastle Central Motorway along with officers from Northumbria Police.
A police cordon is in place with the building engulfed in flames.
Smoke can be seen for several miles.
Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue said in a statement: "TWFRS are currently in attendance at a large fire at Carliol Square, Newcastle. Please keep doors and windows closed and drive carefully if in the area."

It's understood the building used to house Manors Social Club and later strip club FYEO.
Footage taken from a flat across the road shows fire crews dowsing the flames with water as smoke continues to rise.
It is unclear if the building is currently in use with one window boarded up and some graffiti visible.

It's believed the fire started sometime around 7pm, according to a witness.
The emergency incident has resulted in heavy traffic on the A167 northbound near Swan House roundabout.
