A little girl is fighting for her life in a critical condition after a BMW which failed to stop for police crashed into a parked car containing a family of four.

A man is being sought by police after fleeing the scene in Ipswich tonight.

Police in the Suffolk town say a black BMW 116i car was asked to stop at just before 7pm before it took off and smashed into another car in which were sat a mum, dad and two young children.

A 10-year-old girl inside the parked car suffered a serious head injury and was rushed by ambulance to Addenbrooke’s Hospital for treatment.

A police spokesperson said the girl’s condition was tonight described as critical.

The driver of the BMW "fled the scene and ran off", said the spokesperson.

He was described as black, in his 20s, around 5 feet 2 inches tall, slim build.

He was wearing a long black padded coat with a white emoji design on the hood, light coloured tracksuit trousers and white trainers.

The spokesperson added: "He is outstanding at this time and police are concerned for his welfare and keen to trace his whereabouts."

The crash, described as a fail to stop collision, took place in Ipswich's Burlington Road, on Thursday, February 3, after police had previously tried to stop the BMW in London Road.

The man being sought by police was said to have ran off in the direction of Civic Drive after colliding with the family's car, which was a Daihatsu Sirion.

Police are appealing for witnesses.

In a statement tonight, the Suffolk Constabulary spokesperson said: "Police are appealing for witnesses after a girl sustained serious injuries following a fail to stop collision in Ipswich.

After a very short time, the BMW car drove into Burlington Road where it collided with a parked Daihatsu Sirion vehicle, containing a family of four people. A 10-year-old girl, inside the parked car, sustained a serious head injury as a result of the collision and has been taken by ambulance to Addenbrooke’s Hospital for treatment. The girl’s condition is described as critical.

"The girl’s mother, father and a second, younger child have all gone to hospital to be checked over.

He is outstanding at this time and police are concerned for his welfare and keen to trace his whereabouts.
