FA to investigate Arsenal fans incident with Kevin De Bruyne at Emirates Stadium

The FA have confirmed they will be opening an investigation into an incident that occurred which saw bottles thrown at Kevin De Bruyne during Arsenal's 3-1 Premier League defeat to Manchester City on Wednesday. Arsenal are also conducting their own internal investigation into the matter.

The Belgian midfielder was seen making his way around the pitch after being substituted before multiple missiles were thrown at him. An Amazon Prime video camera captured the 31-year-old shrugging his arms as he tried to avoid being struck by missiles coming allegedly from the direction of the home stands.

Mikel Arteta was asked about the incident involving De Bruyne, to which he said, "certainly not [what we want to see]. I haven’t seen it, but certainly not." Prior to the incident, De Bruyne had put in a performance associated with his undeniable quality on Wednesday evening with a goal and an assist to his name. In the first half, he was the beneficiary of Takehiro Tomiyasu's poor back pass, intercepting the ball before it could reach Aaron Ramsdale and looping an effort expertly into an empty net.

After Jack Grealish had put City back in front following Bukayo Saka's equaliser late into the first half, Erling Haaland then scored his 26th Premier League goal of the season after receiving De Bruyne's pass. That duo have now combined for six of Haaland's goals this season the most of any partnership in England's top flight.

The win took Pep Guardiola's side top of the table on goal difference with both title rivals now on 51 points although Arsenal do have a game in hand. Up next the Gunners travel to Aston Villa on Saturday before City visit Nottingham Forest later in the day.
