BREAKING: Emergency services on hand after 'major gas leak' in Lanarkshire

A "sizeable emergency services presence" is on hand near a retail outlet in Coatbridge due to a "major gas leak".

Retail units which fall into "an exclusion zone" amid the leak are closed until further notice.

A statement on the Kirkshaws Road shopping facility's Facebook page reads: "Due to a major gas leak in the local area, unfortunately Mackinnon Mills falls into an exclusion zone and we are unable to open until it is safe to do so.

"We will post any updates on here once we have them. Apologies for any inconvenience caused."

Mackinnon Mills is a popular retail outlet with Coatbridge shoppers with ladies' and men's fashions, a golf store, Pavers shoes and Ponden Home among its shops, while the facility is also home to a Tree Top Tumble soft play area for children.

Lanarkshire Live will have more to follow on this developing story.
