Breaking down Nick Sirianni’s greatness by the numbers since becoming Eagles head coach

The NFL is a league of perception, and it seems like Nick Sirianni’s introductory press conference was ten years ago. On that day, Sirianni was mocked and ridiculed. Fast-forward four NFL seasons and the Cowboys are searching for a new head coach after Mike McCarthy and the organization decided to part ways ahead of a Tuesday deadline.

With McCarthy out in Dallas, Sirianni is now the longest-tenured head coach in the division, with Brian Daboll being the next closest.

Sirianni catches much flack for his moxie and coaching style, but his greatness can be found in the numbers.

***

  • Sirianni is just the sixth head coach in NFL history to advance to the playoffs in each of their first four career seasons, along with John Harbaugh (2008-11 Ravens), Bill Cowher (1992-95 Steelers), John Robinson (1983-86 Rams), Chuck Knox (1973-76 Rams) and Paul Brown (1950-53 Browns) — per Elias Sports. Sirianni and Cowher are the only Super Bowl-era head coaches to make the postseason in their first four career years while also earning a Super Bowl appearance.
  • According to Elias Sports, Sirianni (.706, 48-20) has produced the 3rd best winning percentage by a head coach during the Super Bowl Era (min. 50 games), trailing only John Madden (.759, 103-32-7 from 1969-78) and George Allen (.712, 116-47-5 from 1966-77). Overall, it is the 6th-highest mark in NFL history, behind Guy Chamberlin (.784, 58-16- 7 from 1922 27), Madden, Vince Lombardi (.738, 96-34-6 from 1959-67, ‘69), Ray Flaherty (.720, 54-21-3 from 1936-42) and Allen.
  • Sirianni owns the 2nd-most regular-season victories by an NFL head coach in their first four career years, trailing only George Seifert (52-12, .813).
  • Sirianni is just the seventh NFL head coach to win 14+ games multiple times, joining Bill Belichick (five), Andy Reid (three), George Seifert (three), Mike Ditka (two), Joe Gibbs (two) and Don Shula (two).
  • Sirianni, who also led Philadelphia to a team-record 10 consecutive wins this season, joins George Seifert (three) as the only NFL head coaches to win 14+ games twice in their first four career years.
