Breaking down Jaguars’ 2 selections in The Athletic’s 2025 NFL mock draft

One of the best in the draft business, Dane Brugler of The Athletic, put together a two-round mock draft for the Jacksonville Jaguars and all other 31 teams.

Let’s take a closer look and break down each of the Jaguars’ selections.

Pick 5: Will Johnson, CB, Michigan

Get used to seeing Will Johnson mocked to the Jaguars during this pre-draft process. The Jaguars have a need in the secondary, with their unit ranking last in yards per pass attempt allowed in 2024, and Johnson is one of the top cornerback prospects in this year’s class.

Johnson is listed at 6-2 – 202 pounds, Due to a turf toe injury, he appeared in only six games in 2024. However, over his three seasons at Michigan, Johnson allowed a completion rate of just 53% at 13.4 yards per catch with good ball production, coming away with nine interceptions and seven pass breakups.

“Personally, I think this is too early for Johnson — but that will be the case for several prospects in this year’s first round,” wrote Brugler. “I do really like Johnson’s eyes, feet and coverage IQ to match and make plays on the ball. He has a starter-caliber skill set and would upgrade one of the Jaguars’ outside corner spots as a rookie.”

Pick 36: Jonah Savaiinaea, G, Arizona

Bolstering the interior offensive line has to be a top priority for the Jaguars this offseason. Recently, when quarterback Trevor Lawrence was asked how the offense can become less “predictable,” he noted the need for a more consistent running game to help keep the offense out of those obvious passing situations.

Savaiinaea played both right and left tackle spots in 2024, but he does have nearly 1,000 career snaps at right guard as well. This past season, he was one of PFF’s higher graded pass-blockers, allowing four sacks and 15 pressures over 478 pass-blocking snaps.

For what it’s worth, he’s graded out as a better pass-protector than run-blocker and his pressure numbers were better from guard than at tackle.
