It’s not often at this early stage in the pre-draft process we get a two-round mock draft, so when one does pop up, of course we have to break down the Jacksonville Jaguars’ selections.
Nick Baumgardner and Scott Dochterman of The Athletic, alternated selections in this recent mock draft. Let’s take a look at who the Jaguars ended up with and what you need to know.
Pick 5: Will Campbell, OT, LSU
We’ve seen a lot of mock drafts having the Jaguars taking either DT Mason Graham or CB Will Johnson, but The Athletic has Jacksonville addressing the trenches right away. The offensive line is a position group that new head coach Liam Coen has to improve in 2025, specifically in the run game.
Campbell is an experienced player with over 2,500 career snaps, just about all of which have come at left tackle. However, as Kyle Crabbs of the 33rd Football Team noted in his scouting report, Campbell could be an option at guard at the NFL level.
Campbell allowed just four sacks during his entire playing career and graded out well as a run blocker by PFF’s metrics.
“If OT1 is still available, Jacksonville has to pounce, because protecting Trevor Lawrence should be priority No. 1. Campbell, a three-year starting left tackle, could be a culture-changer who is athletic enough to play guard, if needed,” wrote The Athletic.
Pick 36: Benjamin Morrison, CB, Notre Dame
I think a fair question here is whether or not Morrison will actually be available at pick 36, but if he is, what a value selection for the Jaguars, whose secondary was picked apart last season.
Morrison’s 2024 season was ended prematurely due to a hip injury, but he was playing at a high level before that point, allowing a completion rate of just 44% through six games, along with only 10.4 yards per catch with two pass breakups.
Over his three year career, quarterbacks completed 46% of their throws while Morrison surrendered 11.9 yards per catch with nine interceptions and 12 pass breakups.
