Diego Simeone was hit with bottles thrown at him by Manchester United fans as he left the Old Trafford pitch after Atletico Madrid knocked the Red Devils out of the Champions League.
Renan Lodi scored the only goal of the game on Tuesday night as the Spanish giants beat Man United 2-1 on aggregate, securing their place in the quarter-finals.
Simeone made a quick dart as soon as the final whistle sounded, which the Argentine has made a habit of doing throughout his career as a boss, and failed to hang around to shake hands with interim Man United boss Ralf Rangnick.
But the Atletico manager was targeted by a section of the Red Devils' fanbase, who could be seen throwing bottles in the direction of the Argentine as he made his way to the tunnel.
Simeone didn't stop to react to what was happening and instead sprinted down the tunnel and towards the away changing room to wait for his squad. Man United are yet to comment on the disappointing scenes that marred the game.
In the UK it is customary for managers to shake hands following a match, but Simeone previously explained why he opts against abiding by this unwritten rule after a match with Liverpool, in which he was criticised for not shaking hands with Jurgen Klopp.
"I don't like the greeting after the match because they are the emotions of two sides in different emotional minds," Simeone said. "I know in the UK it is a custom but I don’t share it and I don’t like the falseness it may include.
"I don't know Klopp as a person very well but I know he is a great coach who has done great work at every club he has been at."
