BBC viewers baffled over Olly Murs' American accent as he performs at Coronation Concert

Olly Murs performed for King Charles III during the Coronation concert - but fans were distracted by his American accent.

The former X Factor star, 38, put on an incredible performance as he belted out his classic tune, Dance With Me Tonight.

The singer got the crowd going within seconds with his high energy, but some BBC viewers at home were left baffled by his apparent American accent while he sang.

"I love Olly and I know he sings in an American accent but he's at the KING OF ENGLAND'S Coronation guys," one tweeted.

"Olly is American now," another joked, while someone else quipped: "Okay so Olly Murs is the new Liam Payne with the American accent."

"WOW! Olly Murs knows how to get a crowd going, he's amazing," someone else gushed.

While another BBC One viewer swooned: "Olly Murs is sooooo hot. He's like a fine wine and gets better with age."

Ahead of his performance this evening, Olly took to Instagram to share how he was feeling.

The singer had been fighting the nerves ahead of his performance after he said it was the biggest honour of his career to perform in front of the royal family.

The Heart Skips A Beat chart-topper, 38, took to Instagram to explain that he had headed to the gym to try and rid himself of anxiety and adrenaline before he performs for King Charles' special celebration.

"Morning everyone, it's here - the King's Coronation performance and I'm really excited about it. I've been to the gym this morning and have had a good session. I'm feeling ready and pumped for today," Olly said.

"It's going to be a real special moment for me. I'm really excited and just wanted to say thank you to everyone for all the kind messages and support and love. Can't wait - it's going to be awesome," the singer added.

Notting Hill star Hugh Bonneville is hosting the concert, and the show will also feature pre-recorded video sketches from Top Gun star Tom Cruise, Dynasty actress Dame Joan Collins, Bear Grylls and Sir Tom Jones, who will recite a number of facts about the monarch.

Preparations for tonight's concert have not been without numerous hiccups along the way.

Not least, a number of major A-Listers turning down the opportunity to perform, be it due to conflicting schedules or their republican stance.

Unfortunately, there have also been a few last minute changes to the schedule due to dropouts over the last few days.

Singer Freya Ridings has been forced to pull out due to sickness, while Zoe Ball announced just hours before the concert began this evening that she would not be taking part.

The Radio 2 DJ said that she was "absolutely gutted" to be unable to attend, saying: "The sickness bug has got me."

However, it's undeniable that all eyes will be on Dark Horse songstress Katy Perry tonight after her awkward tumble and struggle to find her seat at the Coronation went viral on Saturday.

Clad in a lavender Vivienne Westwood ensemble and flamboyant headpiece, she left fans in stitches as she looked around in confusion in Westminster Abbey.

Yet Katy effortlessly brushed off any embarrassment with a witty response on Twitter.
