Match of the Day 2 host Mark Chapman's wife Sara dies aged 44 after long illness

BBC Radio 5 Live presenter Mark Chapman's wife has died after a long illness, it's reported.

Sara is said to have passed away aged 44 on Wednesday surrounded by her family.

Mark, who also hosts Match of the Day 2, was married to Sara since 2000 and they shared three children aged 17, 12 and six.

A source told The Sun: "Sadly Sara passed away on June 3. Mark and the kids are absolutely devastated.

"The family was there and it’s just a really sad situation.

"They’re an extremely private family and would appreciate people respecting that."

Mirror Online has contacted Mark's reps for comment.

Mark hasn't been active on his Twitter account since May 15.

He hasn't commented publicly on Sara's death.

The presenter previously opened up about his family.

He said: "I know my family are very proud of me but I don’t look at what I do as being anything particularly special.

"I've got a great job and it's so much fun but I don't go in for any of that celebrity-nonsense.

Mark joined Radio 5 Live in 2010 to host live sport in the evenings.

He became the main host of Match of the Day 2 in August 2013 after previously working as a stand-in presenter.
