Banner flown over Anfield during Liverpool vs West Ham in response to Kurt Zouma video

West Ham United central defender Kurt Zouma was once again the subject of attention in the wake of the video that was released showing him slapping and kicking his cat.

During the Hammers' game against Liverpool at Anfield in which the 27-year-old started, a plane was spotted by fans with the message ‘Cats Lives Matter’ in response to Zouma's video.

The France International has been criticised heavily over the past few weeks for his actions, with manager David Moyes' decision to keep on selecting the former Chelsea star also coming into question.

Regarding the game, West Ham failed to take anything from the high-octane Premier League encounter, losing 1-0 on the night.

Jurgen Klopp's men took the lead in the 27th minute courtesy of Sadio Mane, who converted Trent Alexandar's cross from the right-hand side.

The Reds created a plethora of chances throughout the 90 minutes and could easily have added more goals to their tally.

But the east Londoners were also given many opportunities to level proceedings but failed to apply any sort of cutting edge when it mattered inside the final third.

The defeat is a major blow in West Ham's fight for a top-four finish as it leaves Moyes' men in fifth place, two points behind Manchester United, who are currently sitting in fourth place.

Arsenal are on the same points as the Hammers, but the Gunners have four games in hand and will have the opportunity to place themselves in one of those Champions League places should they defeat Watford on Sunday afternoon ahead of the Manchester derby.
