Ashley Cole leaves Chelsea to join Frank Lampard in Everton coaching role

Former Chelsea star Ashley Cole has left his role within the academy to join Frank Lampard and Joe Edwards on Merseyside for their new Everton adventure.

Cole, who spent eight playing years with Lampard in west London, was occupying a coaching role in the Blues' academy coupled with having a job with England's Under-21s.

Following on from Joe Edwards' capture and the failed move to bring Anthony Barry to Liverpool, former Chelsea boss Lampard has continued his raid on his beloved club with this latest capture.

Speaking to the Everton website about this news, he said: "I'm delighted to add Ashley into my backroom team. Everyone knows about his superb playing career and what he has achieved in the game.

“He is now a well-respected coach which has been recognised by his work with England Under-21s. He’ll bring a wealth of enthusiasm, game-play experience and is a very good young coach who adds strength to our coaching staff.”

Cole then went on to add: “I was thrilled when Frank asked me to join him at Everton.

"This is a brilliant opportunity with a fantastic club and I am coming here to work hard and try to help bring success to Everton.

“The chance to link up again with Frank was another huge draw. He is an excellent manager and leader. With the rest of the staff here, we have everything in place for what we want to achieve together.”

Lampard is likely to speak more about this latest recruitment decision in his unveiling press conference which is taken place shortly and will be covered by our peers at the Liverpool Echo.
