Arsenal star withdraws from England's Nations League squad due to injury

Arsenal defender Ben White has withdrawn from the England squad due to injury.

The former Brighton man was named in Gareth Southgate's squad ahead of upcoming Nation League matches against Hungary, Germany and Italy. However, the Three Lions have now confirmed that the talented centre-half isn't fit enough and will 'continue rehabilitation' with the Gunners.

A statement read: "Ben White will no longer report for England duty due to injury. The Arsenal defender was named in Gareth Southgate’s 27-man selection last week but will continue his rehabilitation with his club.

"The majority of the squad reported to St. George’s Park on Monday ahead of England’s four UEFA Nations League fixtures. However, Raheem Sterling, Kieran Trippier and James Ward-Prowse will arrive on Tuesday, as will Trent Alexander-Arnold following his participation in the UEFA Champions League final."

White missed four of Arsenal's last five Premier League matches following a hamstring problem, with Rob Holding filling in for him during the catastrophic North London Derby defeat against Tottenham Hotspur. Holding let the occasion get the better of him, repeatedly fouling Son Heung-min before eventually receiving two yellow cards, meaning his teammates had to play with ten men for the best part of an hour.

Spurs clinched a 3-0 victory before the Gunners capitulated against Newcastle United, losing 2-0 to hand their fierce rivals a place in next season's UEFA Champions League. Still, technical director Edu is keen to bolster Mikel Arteta's squad in the summer transfer window as the Brazilian transfer chief looks to sign at least one striker, a central midfielder and a backup fullback.
