Arsenal release Gabriel Jesus knee injury statement as surgery and rehab timeline confirmed

Arsenal have confirmed that Gabriel Jesus has undergone surgery following an injury sustained at the World Cup.

The forward has returned to London Colney and will play no further part in Tite's side's competition in Qatar.

A statement from the club released on Tuesday reads: "Gabriel Jesus has successfully undergone surgery to his right knee after suffering an injury during the Brazil v Cameroon World Cup group stage match on Friday.

"Gabby will now begin his rehabilitation programme.

"Everyone at the club is supporting Gabby and will be working hard to get him back on the pitch as soon as possible."

Jesus played his first match of the tournament against Cameroon in the 1-0 loss for his country but missed the 4-0 victory over South Korea on Monday. football.london learned of initial scans detecting issues with his knee over the weekend but things are worse than previously feared, and he could be out for several months.

Jesus has been a key player for Mikel Arteta's table-topping Gunners but failed to score in his last six league games, but continued to contribute with three assists in that time. He will prove to be a major miss for Arsenal after joining last summer for £45million, but the January transfer window comes at a good time, with extra reinforcement available to buy in the winter market.

Arsenal play two league games in December before the window opens.
