Arsenal Europa League star misses training ahead of PSV amid Oleksandr Zinchenko update

Arsenal have been dealt a blow ahead of their Europa League clash against PSV Eindhoven on Thursday evening. Youngster Marquinhos did not train with the rest of the Gunners squad at London Colney on Wednesday morning, football.london understands.

The Brazilian, who signed from Sao Paulo for £3 million in the summer, would have expected to have been in the squad for the clash against the Dutch side. But this is now in doubt and Arteta may have to go into the game without the 19-year-old. It's understood Marquinhos is unwell, although Arteta will provide an update on the situation in his pre-match press conference later today.

After enduring 'a slightly disappointing night' against Bodo/Glimt on his home debut, Marquinhos lost his place for the return fixture and was an unused substitute last week. Having already proved on matchday one with a goal and assist against FC Zurich that he certainly has the quality and temperament to succeed, the teenager will be hoping to return to the Arsenal side as soon as possible.

Another player who did not train on Wednesday morning was defender Oleksandr Zinchenko. The former Man City star last featured for the Gunners against Tottenham on October 1 but a calf injury has kept him out of action ever since. Long-term absentees Emile Smith Rowe and Mohamed Elneny were also not spotted at training.

Mikel Arteta's side have won all four of their games played in the Europa League so far and will top Group A if they avoid defeat at The Philips Stadion. This would be a massive boost as the benefit of winning the group is automatic qualification to the last-16 stage, avoiding a play-off against a Champions League transferee and two extra games in the new year.
