Armed police scour moorland as footpath cordoned off with crime scene tape

Armed police have been pictured scouring an area of moorland in Salford as part of a 'wider operation'. The armed officers were spotted in Kersal Moor this morning (Friday). They appeared to be searching the area.

A police dog was also spotted searching the moorland. A footpath from the corner of Heathland Road and Wensley Road onto Kersal Moor was cordoned off using crime scene tape.

At least one police van was parked near to the entrance to the path, with officers also stationed there. Two more police vehicles, including a van and car, were also pictured stationed on nearby Moor Lane.

The Manchester Evening News understands that access onto Kersal Moor for members of the public has been restricted. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said that police were at the scene 'as part of a wider operation'.
