Armed police descended on a street in Salford on Sunday evening amid reports of a shooting. Officers swarmed Concord Place and Douglas Green, beside the River Irwell shortly after 6pm.

A man was rushed to hospital from the scene, but is said to be in a stable condition. Police say they are still conducting enquiries to establish whether or not a firearm was discharged.

Dramatic pictures show a heavy police presence at the scene of the reported incident, with the road taped off as investigations continued late into Sunday night. A police helicopter was also understood to have been circling the area afterwards.
