Antonio Conte leaves as Tottenham head coach by mutual consent

Tottenham and head coach Antonio Conte have parted company after 16 months at the helm for the coach. The Italian's exit from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium comes over a week after his explosive post-match press conference outburst following the 3-3 draw at Southampton.

Leading 3-1 with 16 minutes remaining, Spurs threw away a two-goal lead and it resulted in the 53-year-old getting plenty off his chest in an eye-opening 10 minutes with the assembled media. Amid plenty of speculation surrounding his future anyway prior to the draw on the south coast following some extremely poor results, his position at the club had come under serious fire after hitting out at the players and the club in an extraordinary press conference at St Mary's Stadium.

The club have confirmed that Cristian Stellini will become acting head-coach for the remainder of the season, with Ryan Mason working as his assistant.

Club chairman Daniel Levy said in a statement: "We have 10 Premier League games remaining and we have a fight on our hands for a Champions League place. We all need to pull together. Everyone has to step up to ensure the highest possible finish for our Ccub and amazing, loyal supporters"

As a result of the recent bad run of form that has seen Tottenham drop some key points in the top-four race and also crash out of the FA Cup and Champions League, Conte's time in N17 has come to an abrupt end. Question marks always surrounded his future beyond the end of the current campaign with the ex-Chelsea boss refusing to commit to the club for the long term.

Signing an 18-month deal at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium back in November 2021 after replacing Nuno Espirito Santo in the hotseat, Spurs did have the option in their agreement to extend his contract by a further year. His exit now leaves Daniel Levy with a huge decision to make over the Italian's replacement.

Former head coach Mauricio Pochettino, who was dismissed from the role in November 2019, has been heavily linked with a return to north London. Other names to be mentioned in regards to the position include Julian Nagelsmann, Luis Enrique, Roberto De Zerbi and Ruben Amorim.

Tottenham have 10 games of the 2022/23 Premier League season remaining following their cup exits. The Lilywhites are next in action on Monday, April 3 when they travel to Goodison Park to take on Sean Dyche's Everton side in hope of solidifying their push for a top four place.
