Aaron Ramsdale is one of four players to drop out of the England senior squad for the friendlies against Switzerland and Ivory Coast owing to injury.
The Arsenal goalkeeper hurt a hip in last Thursday's defeat to Liverpool at Emirates Stadium and missed Saturday's Premier League win away to Aston Villa. Mikel Arteta confirmed that a scan showed an injury.
Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold, Chelsea's Reece James and Roma striker Tammy Abraham have also withdrawn from Gareth Southgate's squad. Ramsdale is replaced by Sam Johnstone, with Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins recalled and full backs Tyrick Mitchell and Kyle Walker-Peters getting their first senior calls.

"Crystal Palace’s Tyrick Mitchell and Southampton’s Kyle Walker-Peters have been rewarded with their first England senior call-ups," the FA said in a statement. "The pair of full-backs will also be joined in the squad by West Bromwich Albion’s Sam Johnstone and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins.
"This follows the withdrawal of Aaron Ramsdale, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Reece James and Tammy Abraham through injury. It will be Mitchell’s first involvement with England at any level while Walker-Peters, a 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup winner, has amassed caps from U18 through to U21 level."
It is unclear how long Ramsdale will be sidelined for. Speaking at the Villa win, Mikel Arteta said: "He wasn’t confident in the last 50 or 60 minutes against Liverpool. We scanned him and he had a proper injury and a sore muscle. He wanted to be here but as soon as he realised he couldn’t play he wanted to be here to support Bernd which shows you the kind of character he is."
