Bread-only fine dining restaurant will send foodies into dough-verload

Brits are bread obsessed, be it a bread basket before dinner or a home baked loaf during lockdown we cannot resist tucking into a sourdough roll. A new pop-up restaurant will serve a menu constructed only from bread-based recipes to diners.

Baker’s Dozen is a one night only pop up restaurant in London that will serve a 13-course meal to guests, the entirety of which is made with various bread. A ballot is now open for foodies to win the chance to eat at this restaurant for free on October 19, 2022.

Run by Asda, Baker’s Dozen will even have a resident ‘Doughmellier’ to give tasting notes and pairing qualities for each course. The menu includes Welsh rarebit with a cheese baguette, naan bread with Shakshukit and a bread and butter pudding.

A study run by the supermarket found that over half of the British population will tuck into a bread basket before their meal. Nearly a quarter of the UK admit to enjoying this basket more than the main itself, inspiring this dough-verload menu.

Two in five Brits have been unable to finish a meal after overindulging on bread before eating. Even at home a massive 85% of us eat bread daily, with a fifth of those living in the West Midlands admitting to eating between four and five slices of bread a day.

Asda is only opening Baker’s Dozen for one night in London and guests can only grab a plate by winning the ballot, which is open right now on the website. Ian McEvans, senior director of Asda Bakery said: “Our bespoke menu makes bread the hero of each delectable dish because it really is that good!”

Winners of this exclusive experience will be chosen at random and allocated a table for themselves and a plus one. All the breads will be available to buy in Asda stores and online from October.
