Bre-Z Discusses Coop's Character Evolution On All American Series

American Gods (TV Series 2017–2021)

Throughout the six seasons of All American, actress Bre-Z has witnessed her character, Coop, undergo a remarkable transformation from a gang affiliate to a law student in training. The 37-year-old actress expressed her joy and satisfaction with how Coop's storyline has evolved, highlighting the importance of showcasing growth and positivity in characters like hers.

When the series premiered in 2018, Coop faced homelessness after being kicked out by her parents for being gay. She later became involved in a gang to survive, only to shift her focus to music and eventually find her passion in pursuing a career in law. The recent seasons have depicted Coop's journey through law school, emphasizing her determination and growth.

Bre-Z shared that she advocated for Coop's character development, aiming to challenge stereotypes and showcase a different narrative for Black, masculine-presenting women. The show's creators supported her vision, leading to a recalibration of Coop's future storyline to reflect a more positive and empowering trajectory.

The actress emphasized the significance of portraying Coop's transition from adolescence to adulthood, particularly through her pursuit of law as a serious and demanding profession. By depicting Coop's dedication and hard work in law school, the show aims to inspire viewers and challenge preconceived notions about the character.

Looking ahead to the seventh season of All American, Bre-Z hopes to see Coop continue to evolve not only in her career but also in her personal life. She envisions Coop developing emotional intelligence, nurturing her relationships, and embracing a more mature outlook on life, including her romance with girlfriend Patience.

Furthermore, Bre-Z emphasized the importance of on-screen representation, especially for the LGBTQIA+ community, highlighting the impact of showcasing growth, support, and positive relationships for viewers. She underscored the significance of portraying authentic experiences and relationships for audiences to relate to and learn from.

As All American prepares for its seventh season in 2025, fans can anticipate further character development and compelling storylines that challenge stereotypes and promote inclusivity and growth.
