Brazilian wonderkid declares Liverpool transfer dream after being scouted by Man Utd

Highly-rated Flamengo midfielder Joao Gomes has spoken about his "great desire" to one day play for Liverpool. While taking part in a live-streaming session on Instagram to speak to his fans, he was asked whether he wants to one day move to the Premier League and if so, which clubs does he like.

He responded by stating “Liverpool are a team I’d play for. I have the greatest desire to play. Playing in the Champions League is my biggest dream and that of my family, my biggest dream in football.”

Flamengo has a rich history of bringing through an array of top South American talents, and Gomes very much looks to be their latest star. Although still just 21, he’s made 93 senior appearances already for the Brazilian side and is a key player in the heart of their midfield.

At 5ft9in, he’s not the tallest but does have bags of technical ability, making him a crucial cog in possession. The 21-year-old is also very versatile and is capable of playing either in a double pivot or as a number eight and will be regularly rotated between both, depending on the needs of the team.

Given the profile he has, it probably won’t be a huge shock to note that there were reports suggesting he was on Manchester United ’s radar. The Red Devils are of course desperate to add quality and depth to their midfield, and it’s thought they have already sent scouts to watch the 21-year-old in person.

Liverpool are also expected to be in the market for a new midfielder, and their recent injury crisis means they may even look to strike a deal before this summer’s window slams shut. However, reports suggest it could cost up to £32million to prize Gomes away from Flamengo, which is a hefty sum for a young player still yet to prove himself outside of South America.
