Brazilian MMA Fighter Igor Severino Suspended For Biting Incident

Igor Severino

Igor Severino, the Brazilian mixed martial artist, faced consequences this week for his actions during a UFC fight in March. Severino was disqualified from the match after biting his opponent's arm, leading to a nine-month suspension by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

The incident occurred during Severino's UFC debut against Andre Lima, where the fight was halted in the second round due to the apparent bite on Lima's arm. UFC president Dana White confirmed Severino's release from the league following the disqualification.

White expressed disappointment in the situation, highlighting that both fighters were promising talents and that resorting to biting was not acceptable behavior in the sport. Severino's actions not only cost him the fight but also his spot in the UFC.

As a result of his actions, Severino received a nine-month suspension and a $2,000 fine from the NSAC, with the suspension being retroactive until December 23. In a post-fight interview, Severino claimed to have no recollection of the biting incident, attributing it to being hit hard during the match.

Despite expressing remorse and a desire to return to the sport, Severino's future in the UFC remains uncertain. He pleaded for a second chance to prove himself and showcase his true character to the fans and the organization.
