Brazil vs Serbia prediction and odds as World Cup favourites kick-off their Qatar campaign

World Cup favourites Brazil get their Group G campaign underway with a potentially dangerous fixture against Serbia in Lusail on Thursday night.

Brazil, 3/1 favourites to win the tournament with Betfred, are just 1/2 to kick off with three points against a Serbia side that are 6/1 to do to Brazil what Saudi Arabia did to Argentina earlier in the week.

A Serbia win wouldn't be as seismic as that Saudi Arabia success but it would deal a major blow to a Brazil side that is under huge pressure back home to deliver a first World Cup in 20 years.

Tite's side head to Qatar on the back of an almost flawless qualifying campaign that saw them win 14 and draw 3 of their 17 qualification matches. Such was their dominance, they conceded just five goals along the way and racked up 40 at the other end. Brazil were so superior in many of their games that they never even looked like conceding.

However, Argentina went into Tuesday's game with Saudi Arabia having been on an incredible losing run of their own and we all know how that turned out. Serbiua are a cut above most of the sides that Brazil played in qualification and most of the top teams have failed to keep clean sheets so far despite facing what appeared to be vastly inferior opposition.

Improving Serbia have the firepower to make life very difficult for Brazil and it would surely be unwise to underestimate a side that finished abovbe Portugal in their qualification group indeed they were the only side in the section to remain unbeaten.

Dragan Stojkovic's side averaged almost 2.5 goals per game which shouldn't come as any great surprise given they can call on the likes of Juventus star Dusan Vlahovic, scorer of 45 goals across the last two Seria A seasons, Fiorentina front man Luka Jovic and Fulham talisman Aleksandar Mitrovic, who has taken the Premier League by storm this term.

Brazil vs Serbia Prediction

Brazil looked strong defensively through qualifcation and their rearguard has one of the best shields in world football in the shape of Casemiro, but this is a different kettle of fish entirely and Serbia will rightly fancy their chances of causing the favourites major problems.

Brazil have more attacking talent available to them than any other side in the competition and goals will surely be on the agenda in any game they play, but the angle here is to back Serbia to get in on the act.

With that in mind, back Both Teams to Score (yes) at 5/6 with Betfred - it's a wager that has collected in 67% of Serbia's competitive games since 2018.
