Brazil release update on Tottenham star Richarlison's injury absence ahead of Morocco friendly

Brazil have confirmed that Richarlison will miss their friendly against Morocco this week after suffering an injury for Tottenham against Southampton on Saturday.

The 25-year-old lasted just four minutes of Spurs' 3-3 draw at St Mary's Stadium before departing the pitch in tears. There were suggestions that the Brazilian had initially gone down injured in the warm-up before the game but must have felt able to start the match.

Now the Brazilian football federation (CBF) have confirmed in a statement that Richarlison will not take part in their away friendly against Morocco on Saturday at the Ibn Batouta stadium in Tangier.

"Defender Marquinhos and striker Richarlison are out of the Brazilian squad," read their statement. "Still recovering from an injury to his abdominal muscles, the Paris Saint-Germain defender will not be available for the next friendly against Morocco, on March 25, in the opposing country.

"The number nine of Tottenham had to be replaced in a game valid for the Premier League on Saturday morning, against Southampton and left the pitch crying.

"The team's doctor, Rodrigo Lasmar, made contact with Richarlison's club and found that the athlete is unable to play for the friendly. Coach Ramon Menezes is studying the call-up of two athletes to make up for the absences."

Juventus centre-back Bremer and Corinthians striker Yuri Alberto were called up as the duo's replacements.

It is the latest in a string of injuries this season for Richarlison since his £60m move from Everton last summer.

One Tottenham player will be in the squad to face Morocco though after Emerson Royal received a call-up last week following his good form for the north London side.
