The Brazilian football confederation have reiterated their aim to 'combat racism' after former Everton forward Richarlison appeared to have a banana thrown in his direction after scoring against Tunisia on Tuesday evening.
A Seleçao defeated Jalel Kadri's side 5-1 in France, thanks to a brace from Raphinha and strikes from Richarlison and Neymar. However, the game was overshadowed during the first half when the former Goodison Park fans' favourite took to the corner flag to celebrate his goal, where footage shows a banana and bottles being thrown in the direction of the 25-year-old as he doubled the visitors' lead.
Following the incident involving Richarlison, the Brazilian football confederation said it remains committed to its efforts to "combat racism". A statement posted on the official CBF Twitter account read: "Unfortunately, after the action [goal], a banana was thrown on the lawn towards Richarlison, author of the second Brazilian goal. CBF reinforces its position to combat racism and repudiates any prejudiced manifestation."

In a bid to combat such behaviour, Brazil sported a unique kit for the fixture against Tunisia. The one-off manufactured shirts were noticeably missing the five stars above the nation's crest - which signifies how many World Cups they have won during their history in the competition. Itaú Com a Torcida, the sponsor of all Brazilian football teams, said the kit was made to "remind you that if it weren't for our black players, we wouldn't have our titles".
