Bray's teenage defender Conor McManus is Brentford-bound after agreeing deal

Bray young gun Conor McManus will join Brentford in the new year.

McManus, 18, has signed a pre-contract agreement with the Premiership club's B squad and will join the young Bees on January 1 on a two and a half year deal for an undisclosed fee.

The teenage defender has made the move after playing 16 times for Bray Wanderers last season, and having come through the underage ranks at Cabinteely FC prior to the clubs' merger.

Brentford B head coach Neil MacFarlane said: “Conor is a terrific acquisition. Over the last few years, we’ve been able to dip into the market and bring in young players who have had some experience at first team level.

"He’s been playing for Bray in Ireland, and we know that he is a terrific young lad who will be part of the positive group culture that we have created here.

“He’s young, tenacious, and we know that he will improve. He has a lot of good attributes in that he really wants to defend. If we can work with him to continue to develop in the other aspects then we will have a really good young player on our hands as we move forward.”

Bray's Head of Football Pat Devlin commented: "We are delighted for Conor. He is one of the first players to come through our programme. He is a great lad, and this is a fantastic opportunity for him.”.

Bray Chairman Tony Richardson added: “Everybody at the club wishes Conor the very best of luck in his future career.

"It is really satisfying to see our development pathway delivering some early success and providing Conor with the opportunity to realise his full potential. We wish him well.”
