MLB umpires have been really bad this year so who can fault a player who wants to try to sneak one past a guy in blue and trick one into getting a bad call for his team?
That’s what Atlanta Braves catcher William Contreras apparently tried to do last night in Washington and it almost kind of worked for him.
Catchers are known to try to frame pitches and make balls look like strikes in hopes that the ump will think it was indeed a strike. Contreras took that to a hilarious level on this pitch by Bryce Elder which wasn’t even close to being a strike:

Now that is some fine work there Contreras and a heck of an effort to sneak one past the ump. It didn’t work but I have to applaud the effort and also applaud how easy he made that look.
MLB fans loved it, too.
a+ for effort https://t.co/TJhnZKYKYg

William Contreras could frame Paul Rudd for murder. https://t.co/dI0eMoONq0

My heart skipped a beat, on first watch I thought blue was raising his arm to call a strike 😂

What do you mean "framing"? That was right down the middle.
