'Brave' - Stephen Crainey's admission ahead of crunch Bolton Wanderers clash with Fleetwood Town

Stephen Crainey believes Fleetwood Town's season is now down to a single game when they take on Bolton Wanderers and seek to confirm their League One status.

The Cod Army travel to the University of Bolton Stadium tomorrow to take on Wanderers with their League One status still in the balance.

They are outside the relegation zone on goal difference alone ahead of Gillingham as the battle to stay up will go down to the final day.

Crainey's men take on Wanderers while the Gills host automatic promotion chasing Rotherham United on the last day of the season this Saturday.

Fleetwood suffered a 3-2 loss at Highbury Stadium in midweek at the hands of play-offs chasing Sheffield Wednesday and Crainey says the Cod Army are seeking to 'brave' when they take on Wanderers tomorrow.

The Fleetwood boss is wary of the threat Wanderers pose and the aim they have to finish on a high, but his side are aiming for three points as they seek to confirm their League One status.

Crainey told the club website: “It’s a one-game season now and that’s how we are looking at it. It’s still in our own hands; if we go to Bolton and win then we stay in this league, regardless of what happens anywhere else, so we need to focus on what we do and make sure we turn up on the day.

"It’s going to be a tough game as they are a good side at home, with a big crowd, so we are hoping the lads can withstand the pressure and get over the line.

“I think we’ve got to show courage, bravery, and the ability to take the ball in pressurised situations in the game on Saturday.

"We will be brave and will look to take the ball in tight areas and will handle the occasion. Hopefully, we can dominate the game and bring home those vital three points.

“Bolton are going to want to finish on a high and I think with it being a home game, they are going to want to show the supporters what they have got for the upcoming season.

"We want to go and win the game – that is our main focus over the next few days – we are going there to win the game at the weekend.”

Ian Evatt will take on former Blackpool team mate Crainey when the two sides meet and the Bolton boss has spoken on the potential that his team could relegate his mate's side.

Evatt will compartmentalise that and the Bolton boss knows his counterpart will understand the score heading into the encounter and their friendship will be put on hold for 90 minutes.

The Bolton boss said: "It is football and Steve will understand that. We will be mates before it and we will be mates after it but during the game, I don’t have friends – I just want to win, and that is no different (against Fleetwood). I hope he has success in the future.

"It is great to see that Blackpool squad having manages come out of it. Rob Edwards has been promoted at Forest Green, you have got Jason Euell at Charlton and now Craines (Crainey) now manager at Fleetwood, and myself. It shows you that squad had something special about it. I am really pleased that he has got this opportunity but fundamentally, we are in this game to win regardless of the circumstances.

"You have to compartmentalise it. For me, the most important thing and why I am in this game is because I love to win. That would be no different if my dad was the other managed.

"I would still want to beat him, that is just the way I am. We will shake hands before and after but during the game, we will be full tilt trying to win. There is no doubt about that."
