A Louisiana man who killed his wife and toddler was reported to authorities by his 13-year-old daughter, who a sheriff described as a "brave little girl." Per local law enforcement, the girl also saved her younger sister. Their father died after responding deputies shot him to death.

The shooting happened around 4 a.m. on Saturday in River Ridge, a suburban community just outside New Orleans. Sheriff Joe Lopinto identified the shooter as Glenn Bohne Jr., 46. Bohne fatally shot his wife, Dung Pham, 40, and their two-year-old daughter, Amy Bohne. Both victims were found dead in a hallway.

Lopinto told local media that responding deputies located Bohne in a back bedroom and "fired upon him, striking and killing him inside the residence" after noticing he was armed. The sheriff said the motive behind the shooting is still unknown.

The father also shot his 13-year-old and 9-year-old daughters, both were taken to the hospital and treated for their injuries. As of Saturday, the youngest one remained in critical condition.

"Hearing the child make that 911 call is pretty devastating right now, to be honest with you," he said.

As authorities responded to the incident, neighbors gathered in the rain, shocked by the news. Some talked to NOLA News and described the family as "normal" and "fun-loving." Kathy Monnerhahn was sleeping when the gunshots woke her up. The 56-year-old grandmother said her granddaughter played regularly with the Bohne sisters.

"[She] was just riding with them in the golf cart until 7 o'clock last night," she said. "They played in that empty lot all day yesterday." Her husband, John Monnerjahn, noted that the Bohne family "always decorated for Halloween and Thanksgiving and Christmas."

Later that day, more than 100 community members, including law enforcement agents, gathered in a local church to pray for the family.
