Edinburgh police raced to the scene in Corstorphine on Sunday after thieves tried to smash through the back door of a home.
The family in Craigmount Gardens were woken by the noise, and managed to scare off the criminals. Police were quick to arrive at the home, by which time the thieves had ran away without stealing anything.
Aslam Yasin, whose home was broken into, told Edinburgh Live : “We had an attempted break in at 8.15pm.

“They managed to break our back door, before we woke up and they ran away. Police arrived quickly, but the thieves were away before they came. Luckily, nothing was stolen.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson added: “We were made aware of an attempted break-in at a property on Craigmount Gardens in Edinburgh shortly after 8.15pm on Sunday, January 15.
“No access was gained and inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
