A brand-new music festival has announced a stellar line up of Ayrshire’s best folk artists to entertain crowds this summer.
The first ever Fresh Ayr Folk Fest will take to Ayr’s Rozelle Park between August 11-13 with a host of talented singers and musicians.
The 1000-capacity event will boast family entertainment across the weekend, with art and craft stalls, and ‘creative, woodland and circus workshops’ including dream catcher making, wood whittling and juggling.
Music workshops will be running on the Saturday and Sunday morning for keen learners, which are included in the price of attendees’ tickets.
Ayr’s own Alistair McCulloch and his band will take to the Fresh Ayr stage on the opening day.
The renowned fiddler will perform alongside Aaron Jones (Old Blind Dogs) on bouzouki, guitar and vocals, and Mark Duff (formerly of Capercaillie) on whistles.
The adored French pop-rock singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jeremy Levif, who reached the semi-finals of The Voice in 2021, and local sibling guitar and fiddle duo, Binky Blue, have just been confirmed as welcome additions to the bill.
Binky Blue is made up of brother and sister Jared and Rianna Muir who combine electronic, pop, folk and traditional music while experimenting with different sounds to generate an exciting and energetic sound.
Other local talent will also include fiddler and singer Lauren Collier and her band; guitarist, flautist and singer-songwriter Seán Gray; the hugely sought after Bodhrán player Ewan Baird, who will be playing as part of neo-trad trio Project Smok; and The Paul McKenna Band.
Blair Parham, Director of Fresh Ayr Folk Fest, said: “It is a pleasure to have acts from across Scotland and beyond, including some incredible talent from Ayrshire itself, performing at Fresh Ayr.
“It’s shaping up to be an unforgettable weekend and we can’t wait to welcome music lovers of all ages to Rozelle Park this summer.
“We hope it will become a staple event in the calendar of folk fans across the country for years to come.”
Camping is available at no additional cost, with campers promised ‘a beautiful view to wake up to’, as well as ‘posh loos and showers’.
Ceilidhs are set to take place on the Friday and Saturday evenings, with artisan food and drink vendors also on site.
Organisers will also put on event shuttle buses that will run hourly from Ayr town centre to the park, and back again, to ensure everyone’s journey to and from the event is as safe and stress-free as possible.
